Karan Johar's Dostana stars Abhishek Bachchan, Priyanka Chopra and John Abraham, not necessarily in that order - we managed to get our hands on the music CD a couple of hours ago.
Dostana's music album is loaded with six original tracks and thankfully no remixes. Vishal Shekhar have composed all the songs.
'Jaane Kyun' is the first song although it is not the title track. The vocals have been provided by Vishal himself and the track goes very well with the theme of the film. A typical hinglish song, it is definitely the pick of the lot.
'Desi Girl' is the second track of the album and has Vishal-Shekhar stamped all over it. The music sounds like Shankar-Ehsaan-Loy-ish with a punch of Vishal Shekhar's creativity. It's easily one of the catchiest track of the album. For the film, the song has been filmed in Miami. Without bothering too much about how Miami gels with the lyrics and the music, we move on.
Predictably, there is a bhangra song in the album and this one's named 'Maa Da Ladla'. Saleem provides the vocals to some non existent lyrics. If 'Bhootni ke' from Singh is Kinng managed to dole up a fan following, it won't be that hard for this song to follow suit.
'Shut up and bounce' is the fourth track has the same groovy music that we saw in the teaser trailers od Dostana. Unfortunately listening to the entire song is not the same as watching the trailer. Although the song is catchy, the lyrics are quite ludicrous.
'Khabar Nahin' slows things down after some nonsensical foot tapping post 'Shut up and bounce'. 'Khabar nahi' is an out and out romantic track that is textbook Vishal Shekhar. Vishal, Shreya and Amanat Ali provide some good vocals and the guitar is not bad either. Definitely worth another listen.
Finishing things off is 'Kuch Kam', another offbeat sluggish track. Starting off with some piano keys, the songs later develop into the essence of the film, that is lighthearted fun and masti. This would surely be the song that either plays at the beginning of the film or when the end credits roll.
All in all, the music of Dostana is more than just passable, and if you are looking for typical bollywood music then you won't be disappointed. 'Khabar Nahi' and particularly 'Jaane Kyun' will get some folks hooked on to the album. Dostana is definitely worth buying!
